The little boy with dark hair and grey eyes pulled at the hem of his father’s shirt. Will Herondale, who was reading papers concerning Institute matters he got from Charlott this morning, looked down at his son. “Yes, James?” he replied, put down the papers and kneeled down to the boy.
"Daddy, I think I did something terrible… I think I hurt Brother Zacharias." Will’s eyebrows shot up in wonder.
In fact, Jem - Brother Zacharias - just has been here in the Institute since Gabriel got injured in a fight. Will hadn’t seen his former parabatai for at least 6 years. It was almost terrifying to see how much Jem had changed in such a small amount of time. He transformed more in more into a Silent Brother, however, he still was different from them.
When he came to look over Gabriel’s wounds - Cecily still by his side.
"Why would you say that, James?"
James was silent for a moment and looked at his feet. “I think I made him angry. I didn’t want that. I was happy to see him. You like him a lot and he was your parabatai. So, like a brother. Then he is my uncle. I wanted to say hi to my uncle and I went into the infirmary and wanted to hug but he tried to get away from me and he looked like I hit him even though I didn’t. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to hurt him. Do I have to go to the City of Bones into jail? Please, I don’t want to, Daddy. Tell them, I’m sorry!”
Will hugged his son and closed his eyes. Clinging to his son who had the heartbreaking beautiful eyes of his mother. His dearest son, so kind and innocent. Whose name was James. James Herondale.
"You did nothing wrong, fy nghalon, my heart."
